As some of you know, my husband and I celebrated our 1-year wedding anniversary two weeks ago and the one thing I asked for as a present was a planned trip. Normally I am the one planning all our trips so my sweet husband took on this task and planned EVERYTHING! I’m talking flights/rental car/hotel/tours/dining…literally everything!
He was already in Orlando at the time so I flew down to him the day before our anniversary; since his room was paid for until the next morning we decided to take advantage of that. Then the next morning, April 9 our anniversary, we jumped in the rental and drove down to Miami – keep in mind that I had NO idea where the hotel was located or what he had planned. A few hours later we arrived to our gorgeous hotel on South Beach that was literally right on the beach! Since we had dinner reservations at a nice rooftop restaurant that evening, we decided to use those few hours to explore the beach.
That evening we probably had the most high-class, fancy dinner we had ever been to with the most amazing view of Miami at sunset at the rooftop restaurant, Juvia. At the end of our fine dining experience, our waiter brought out two dessert “shots” to celebrate our anniversary! It was definitely a magical night!
The next morning we had a very early start to the day, a lovely 6am wake-up call for a day trip to Key West. We met the group at the bus and by 7am we were on the road! It was a very long drive but definitely such a cool tour at the southernmost point in the U.S. Upon arriving, we had different tour options (snorkeling, parasailing, or a trolley ride) but had to manage our time wisely as we only had 6 hours to tour the city. We chose the trolley ride because it was the quickest and most efficient way to hit all the main attractions – definitely worth it!
By the time Wednesday came around we were both sunburnt and exhausted from our adventure-filled previous days but we were still excited to wake up at 6am once again to head to our next adventure…Bimini, Bahamas! This was the biggest surprise of the trip and definitely was my favorite! We took the 2-hour ferry ride over to the island and had the entire day to relax on the beach and explore the little town. We spent most of the day at the beach, enjoying the sunshine and tropical drinks from the resort. Then towards the end we decided to take a taxi into the town to grab a few souvenirs. There was this little market where the women of the town handmade and painted the items for sale so we grabbed a few to bring back!
Then the ferry ride back to Miami was through extremely rough waters. The boat even had to stop for a few minutes until the Coast Guard arrived to help a tiny fisherman boat that was being tossed around. After help arrived we continued on and it was very, very rough…I honestly had never been so happy to be back on land haha.
The next morning we woke up and drove back up to Orlando to catch our flight. This was our first flight together in about two years so we were very happy to be on the same flight. All in all it was such an amazing vacation with great experiences that we will treasure forever! Oh, and special shoutout to my husband for granting my anniversary wish of planning the entire trip by himself! He has definitely picked up a few tips and tricks from me in the past!
Happy one year to us – can’t wait to see what’s to come!
